Nuclear Inhibitor of Protein Phosphatase-1

Bovine NIPP-1 fused to a His•Tag. Recombinant protein, sequenced and expressed in E. coli. Specific and very potent inhibitor of protein phosphatase 1 (PP1; K_i = 1-10 pM). It can be used to distinguish PP1 from other major serine/threonine protein phosphatases including PP2A, PP2B, and PP2C. Also an ideal substrate for protein kinase A and casein kinase II. Thought to be involved in the targeting of PP1 to RNA-associated substrates and may also be involved in the dephosphorylation of transcription factors like CREB and the tumor suppressor Rb.
